  • Arizona Officers Killed in Separate Car Accidents

In the past few weeks, two Arizona Police officers have been killed in two separate car accidents.

Recent Car Accidents

The most recent accident occurred when a vehicle struck Officer David Payne’s motorcycle from behind. Payne, 37, had been stopped at a red light. He was fatally injured when the impact sent his motorcycle into the nearby intersection. The driver drove away, but was apprehended later and taken into custody. Police said the driver also had an 11-month-old baby with him. Police believe the suspect was impaired by alcohol, as well as driving on a suspended license.

Just a few days earlier, Officer Bryant Holmes, 34, was killed when he was struck by an SUV that ran a red light. The 20-year-old driver in that accident stopped.
