  • Teenage Boy Injured in Pedestrian-Car Accident

A teenager had to be rushed to the hospital after he was struck in a pedestrian-car accident.

The Pedestrian-Car Accident

According to police, the teenage boy was carrying his skateboard and crossing the street from the west side of Grand Ave to the east side near Myrtle Avenue at roughly 6:45 p.m. He had just entered Grand Ave when he was struck by a southeast-bound Hyundai sedan, driven by a 76-year-old female. Both police and fire departments immediately responded to 911 calls from the scene that reported the pedestrian-car accident.

Injuries

The teen was transported to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene.  Glendale Police Vehicular Crimes detectives are working on the investigation. They are unsure of if the teen was inside of the marked crosswalk. A preliminary investigation has ruled that height speed, nor impairment were factors in the collision.

Darkness Falling Earlier

Firefighters feel this a reminder that now that the year is coming to an end, darkness is falling earlier, and necessary precautions should be taken into account. “The seasons are changing. It’s getting dark a lot sooner,” says police officer Gilbert Mancilla. “The kids that are walking around, all day long, in the same clothes they were wearing early in the morning. They’re not wearing anything reflective. They’re not wearing helmets because they were at school. That’s something people need to be more conscious of.”

“Make sure that you pay attention to your surroundings, and if anything, you need to be in a crosswalk, regardless of how slow traffic may appear. There’s always that car that may come out of nowhere,” he continued.
