  • Alcohol Might Be Cause of Recent Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

A 58-year-old Alejandro Arturo Montes died of injuries he sustained during a recent motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles that occurred near 35th Avenue and McDowell Road.

The Motor Vehicle Accident

According to Phoenix Sgt. Tommy Thompson, Montes was driving a Toyota Solara eastbound on Monte Vista Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at 35th Avenue. He then collided with an 18-year-old woman who was driving a Toyota 4Runner, Thompson said. After the initial collision, a van hit Montes’ vehicle. The van fled the scene and has not been located.

Victims of the Motor Vehicle Accident

The 18-year-old woman and her 14-year-old passenger in the Toyota 4Runner sustained minor injuries, Thompson said. But the passenger who was riding with Montes fled the scene after the crash and has not been identified or found, he said. Witnesses say Montes was bleeding badly. He was reported dead later on.

Alcohol Impairment Suspected in Motor Vehicle Accident

Police say the driver smelled of alcohol and that his blood alcohol level will be tested. In Arizona, a driver is presumed to be legally drunk at .08 percent.
